PRODUCTION OF COMOLONGMO ORGANIC TEA

Tea gardenComolongmo Organic Tea is produced by the Kanchanjangha Tea Estate (www.organickte.com) (KTE). KTE, which is located in Ranitar - a remote hilly village in Panchthar at the foothills of Mt Kanchanjunga - was established in 1984 by a group of small farmers on a cooperative model. The cooperative, in which over 100 small farmers have pooled their marginal land holdings together as shareholders, creating a plantation covering over 94 hectars of land, was the first of its kind in Nepal. Currently over 200 families benefit through KTE.

Although the farmers work on regular wages in accordance with the Tea Workers Act in Nepal, KTE provides the farmers with subsidised rice and tea and sponsors their children at the local community school.

Comolongmo.com is pleased to work with the Kanchanjangha Tea Estate in helping to alleviate poverty in Nepal.
