PRESENTATION
BY KABINDRA KHADGA (EX-FOUNDER DIRECTOR, KTS)

We are happy to give a presentation with Powerpoint slides to schools, churches, voluntary organisations, etc. For further information please email info@comolongmo.com.

Topics:

Nepal in brief
Collapse of tourism industry caused by Maoist insurgency
Why pody community as a target group?
How pody community, "untouchable of untouchables," were discriminated against and shunned by the society, e.g. prohibited to share the same water source with people from other castes, to go to school, to practice religion, etc.

KTS history
From establishment of a day care centre to introduction of the income generating project
Political & financial problems faced

KTS achievements
Examples of two girls who have been through the KTS programme
- Linda, who was found on the street malnourished 22 years ago, today works as one of the matrons in KTS, bringing much happiness for homeless children
- Anila, who was abandoned by her father and also malnourished, has recently got married and is still in education hoping to become a teacher

KTS today
Report by Swisscontact
- 1,466 have graduated from KTS
- Untouchables now can write their own name in the area
- People acknowledge the importance of education

Why fair trade is important
Fair trade - paying poor producers a fair price and helping them to gain the necessary skills and knowledge to develop their businesses and work their way out of poverty
Oxfam reported - Despite all the forums and discussions to tackle poverty in developing countries, not much has been achieved due to the rich countries putting their commercial interests before those of developing countries

Comolongmo & our work
Help KTS to improve facilities for the children in hostel and school and to fund the introduction of useful skill training programmes, e.g. building construction, plumbing, electric fitting, by promoting KTS products and products promoted by KTS

How you can get involved
Organising a presentation for schools, churches, or voluntary organisations, purchase of products, regular contributions, sponsorship to raise money for continuous work of KTS, and whatever way you can help
