Dear
Friends
On behalf of
the Comolongmo Family I have pleasure in requesting your company
to “Experience the magic of Nepal” Fair at Spitalfields
Traders Market at this October half-term –the opening day
will be Saturday 24 October 2009 and will run through to Tuesday
27 October 2009.
I hope many of you will remember the Fair we organised at Greenwich
market during last year's half term break to mark the 25th Anniversary
of Kumbeshwar Technical School (KTS) and to raise fair Trade awareness.
This year we would like to extend our gratitude and thanks to
Spitalfields Traders Market for making it possible to organise
the Fair at Spitalfields by providing the space and Hammerson
plc for sponsoring the Fair.
Please come
and support and encourage our children by voting for the best
rug design from one of the four fantastic finalist design rugs
woven at Kumbeshwar Technical School (KTS), in Kathmandu, Nepal.
The designs have been done by one of the participating school’s
children in a rug design competition from Cator Park School and
St Ursula’s Convent School. For further information on KTS
please visit www.kumbeshwar.com
Judges were invited from all walks of life - weavers, teachers,
photographers, and students to vote for best rug designs and paper
crafts created by the pupils at a pre fair exhibition held at
Cator Park School on 15 July 2009. The woven rugs will be displayed
at the Fair where visitors will be able to witness colourful Nepalese
traditions and products at the Fair. As we have stated, visitors
to the market and website are invited to vote for their favourite
design. Just like last year, the design that gets most votes will
be awarded to the pupil who designed it. The paper crafts created
by the pupils will be sold at the Fair to raise funds for the
benefit of KTS.
You are familiar with Kumbeshwar Technical School (KTS) that the
Fair, is being organised in aid of KTS, a registered charity in
Nepal that currently helps more than 5,000 most underprivileged
families in Kathmandu, Nepal.
Again, the
Comolongmo family would like to take this opportunity to hugely
thank and are grateful to Hammerson plc, and they would especially
like to thank Mr Ray Dervin the Spitalfields Traders Market Manager
and his team for providing the space, all the help and support
and for the sponsorship.
Visitors to the Fair will have the chance to see Nepalese artisans
at work on traditional looms and spinning wheels, to participate
in rug making and weaving and to purchase authentic Nepalese Fair
Trade rugs, tea, handmade papers, jewellery, pashmina shawls and
much more and at the same time have the knowledge their money
will help others to help themselves get a better quality of life.
The Fair has received huge support from local schools. Three schools
(Bow Boys School, Cator Park School and St Ursula’s Convent
School) in London are taking part in this year’s Fair. Four
schools have already signed up for the next year’s 2010
Fair. The organisers are working to bring in 10 schools on board
for 2010 Fair. For further information please write to Kabindra
Khadga via email Kabindrak@comolongmo.com. Please also visit www.comolongmo.com
website for further information.
Ms Patricia Mullar, Head of Humanities at St Ursula’s Convent
School said, “We feel very privileged to have a demonstration
of Nepalese craft, by people who live and work in Nepal, meeting
people always has a stronger impact than actually reading about
them. To learn something of the culture of Nepal is interesting
also and will, hopefully, broaden minds and encourage a curiosity
about the country.”
Mrs Sally Kelly, Assistant Head at Cator Park said, "We are
delighted to be involved with this organisation, as we believe
passionately in the fair-trade ideal, as well as understanding
the importance of improving the quality of life through education.
The girls at Cator Park have thoroughly enjoyed being involved
in the project and loved working with the beautiful hand made
paper”.
Visitors at the market will be able to purchase the rug(s) at
the Fair and take their favourite rug home with them or try their
hand at designing their own rug design or buy online at: www.comolongmo.com.
We hope while the Fair will help the pupils to raise awareness
of KTS, understanding of the fair trade concept and, in some cases,
presenting the opportunity to market their own crafts.
For more details
on the Fair programme please visit our website.
We hope you
will be able to attend the Fair. I am sure you would enjoy taking
part and having a go at spinning and weaving yourself. Also please
tell all your family and friends about the Fair and forward the
flyer.
Finally, we
have spent months working for the Fair. We owe our friends and
grateful for all the help, guidance, designing posters, flyer.
We could not have done without their relentless hard work and
support. I would especially like to thank my wife Mai for her
patience and selfless support.
I look forward
to seeing you at the Fair. If you have any queries please write
to me at kabindrak@comolongmo.com
Kind regards
Kabindra and
