Dear
all
 First,
we are delighted to announce the birth of our daughter, on 3 August
08 at 2.23am, in Newham General hospital. We have named her Aira
Miyazaki-Khadga. “Aira” in Japanese means “love”
and “good”. Both mother and baby are healthy and are
doing well. Mai and I would like to thank all our friends for
their kind messages of congratulations, lovely cards and presents.
In
the third week of July, at the invitation of Graham and Liz, we
had the pleasure of visiting Hereford. It
is lovely to get out of London once in a while and to visit countryside.
Graham, Liz and their son Dillon had spent a month at KTS and
did a few treks in Nepal in 2007. They were kind to organise a
slide show of their experience while my sister Karuna Khadgi,
KTS Principal was visiting them, and invited Comolongmo to set
up a stall (please click here to see the photo) with our products.
They
had hired a town hall, and even provided Nepalese food for guests
to experience. The event was a huge success, with more than 150
people attending – they were expecting about 50! Our huge
thanks to Graham and Liz for their kind hospitality and sharing
their KTS experience with us and some of the people of Hereford,
and of course for taking care of Karuna. Also we would like to
thank those who attended the event for shopping with us and for
their kind donations of £480. As a reminder, I would, of
course, be happy to advise and assist anyone who would be willing
to host a similar event in their local region, where I would be
delighted to share a slide show of the history of KTS. Please
do contact me if you feel you can help.
In our 3rd newsletter I wrote that KTS would be 25 years this
year. I am pleased to say that, to mark this milestone, we are
organising a Fair at Greenwich market from 29 Oct – 2 Nov
2008. We would like to thank Greenwich Hospital Trust and Urban
Space Management for their kind support and help with organising
the Fair.
Also we would like to thank the following schools
- Black Heath High School, St Ursula Convent, Bow School, Sydenham
School and Brompton College – who aretaking part in the
Fair and helping with fundraising. It is particularly pleasing
for us to involve younger people with the Fair Trade movement.
We have organised the following programmes for
the Fair:
1.
SPINNING AND WEAVING WORKSHOPS
We
have a professional spinner and weaver visiting from KTS for the
Fair to give demonstrations of spinning yarn and weaving rugs.
We plan to have three spinning wheels and three looms and hope
to have interactive demonstrations of rug weaving and spinning
at which visitors can try their hand.
2.
THE RUG DESIGN COMPETITION
We
have a rug design competition for pupils of the schools taking
part. We will select the four best designs and convert them into
rugs. Visitors to the Fair will be able to vote for their favourite
from among these four, and the designer of that rug will be awarded
it as a prize.
3.
PAPERCRAFT
We have supplied hand made paper to the schools
for pupils to take part in a paper-craft competition. All the
work will be displayed and sold. The funds raised will go towards
the KTS.
We
will be awarding a prize for each of the two best works.
4.
SECONDMENT FOR A WORK EXPERIENCE AT KTS
We are hoping to offer two pupils the opportunity
to go to Nepal to see the impact that KTS has on life of individuals
in Nepal.
We
are delighted to say that the KTS Founder Chairman, Mr Siddhi
Bahadur Khadgi, and his wife and other guests will be attending
from KTS and will be on hand to share their experiences and answer
questions. For more details on the Fair programmes please click
the link.
I hope you will be able to attend the Fair, which
I am sure will be most enjoyable and rewarding, and I would be
very grateful if you could please invite all your family and friends.
Finally, I would like to take this opportunity
to thank all our friends for the help and support we are receiving
in organising the fair. As always, a large part of our work relies
on your support. If you feel you may be able to help with the
Fair, do please write to us. In particular, we need volunteers
to help with the stalls, spinning and weaving workshops, fund
raising and many other tasks to ensure things run smoothly!
Please do not hesitate to write to me if you have any queries
directly at Kabindra@comolongmo.com.
Thank you and I look forward to seeing you in
Greenwich market.
