On Wednesday 23 June 2010 we had Pre Fair Exhibition at Spitalfields Traders Market to select finalist rug designs for the school’s rug design competition, in which two schools from London, Bow Boys School and Royal Dock’s Community School took part. A panel of independent judges consisting from art and craft professionals, designer and Comolongmo customer(s) selected four finalist rug designs. We would like to thank and are grateful to the judges, Pat Hopewell, Susan O’Reilly, Paul Rider, and Paul and Liz Wallace, for the their help and support to select the designs. For selection the judges adopted following criteria

  1. Originality of design (covers the creativity aspect)
  2. Suitability for chosen method of fabrication
  3. Suitability to be put into batch production (covers the commercial aspect - such as the number of person hours/cost of materials required to realise the design etc)
  4. Purchaser appeal in 2011|12 market (how on trend they are)
  5. Response to the brief

Please click the link to view the four finalist winning designs. The designs will be woven into rugs at KTS, which will be displayed at the Fair. Visitors will have a chance to vote for their favourite design at the Fair and online from 28 October to 31 October 2010. The rug that gets most votes will be awarded to the designer as a prize.

We would like to congratulate the four finalist winning designers. Our huge thank you to Bow Boys School and Royal Dock’s Community School for taking part and for their wonderful effort.
