Dear All
At long last looks like
good weather is on the horizon??? Well, at least I hope change
in the government will bring lots of good fortune, prosperity,
and much needed economic stability in the country that all of
us are so much longing for?
I am delighted to announce
that 3rd Comolongmo Fair “Experience the Magic of Nepal”
is being organised in aid of Kumbeshwar Technical School (KTS)
at Spitalfields Traders Market during schools half term break
from 28 October to 31 October 2010. I remember many of you came
to the Fair last year, thank you very much and I hope you will
come again this year.
What is new in the 3rd
Fair?
<Many more Fair Trade
products>
This year we have 14
Nepalese Fair Trade Producers (FTG Nepal) coming all the way from
Nepal with their top quality, luxurious and affordable products
(jewellery, woollen knitwear and pashmina, leather bags and purses,
handmade wrapping papers, Christmas cards, etc). Also there will
be unique products - Garments made of natural fabrics like banana,
bamboo, 100 cotton products, Mithila Paintings, Batik cards, felt
products, natural textile fibre products, recycle products, blankets
and many more, which will be at the Fair on all the four days.
On Saturday 30 October
along with 14 Nepalese Fair Trade Producers we have 50 Fair Traders
selling Fair Trade products from all over the world; Asia, South
America, Africa and small producers from the UK with wide varieties
of top quality, luxurious and affordable products – rugs,
jewellery, leather bags, fashion accessories, Christmas decoration,
clothes, handmade wrapping papers, Christmas cards, etc, all suitable
for Christmas, which is only a few month ahead of the Fair. For
those looking for wholesale purchases I would say this will be
a perfect opportunity for you.
<Authentic yarn spinning
and rug weaving demonstration and workshop>
We are working to implement
similar projects to last year’s for schools this year again.
There will be a rug design competition amongst participating schools
and four chosen rug designs will be woven into rugs at KTS which
will be displayed at the Fair. Visitors will have a chance to
vote for their favourite design at the Fair and through our website.
The rug that gets most votes will be awarded to the designer as
a prize.
Again we will
bring two artisans (KTS graduates from the rug weaving course,
who have been working at the production unit at KTS for the last
several years) over for yarn spinning and rug weaving demonstration
and workshop. For last year’s Fair information please visit
the link http://www.comolongmo.com/newsletter_10_091218.htm.
For the yarn spinning
and rug weaving workshop, we now have only 16 places each. For
those of you interested to sign up, the workshop will be a 30
minutes’ session at a time. If you would like to sign up
please complete the form and send it to us as soon as possible.
Also, please feel free to forward the form to anybody you think
would be interested to sign up.
<Sweatshop challenge
project by the John Roan School>
On Friday 29 October,
the John Roan School in Greenwich is running a sweatshop challenge
project to demonstrate how you feel to work in a sweatshop factory
at minimum wages. They will be using Nepalese handmade papers
to wrap Nepalese special sweets made from fruit.
I will send you a regular
newsletter to remind you of the Fair and I hope to see you all
at the Fair.
Finally, I would like
to thank Mr Ray Dervin, Spitalfields Traders Market Manager and
his team, BCCT and Fair Trade Foundation for making this possible
and for all the help and support provided to us. Also, our huge
thanks to the schools and Fair Traders for taking part and their
continued support. I owe thanks to my friends for their relentless
support. Last but not least this project would be impossible without
my wife for her devotion, sacrifice and hard work.
Thank you for your continued
support.
Warm regards
Kabindra and family
